Bad races-
1650 free...ugh. My worst event at this meet, but my best event. Added 13 seconds.
400 IM...another of my best events. Added 3 seconds.
Blah... Happens to everyone. Nothing you can do about it.
Good races-
1000 free- Dropped 4 seconds. Good race for me. Happy with it. Yay!
500 free- Dropped 1 second. Could have been faster. My 1000 split was a second faster. Oh well.
Officially my best event. The 200 fly. I've never really been a "flyer" or whatever labels people put on themselves. Dropped 2 seconds in prelims. Came back for finals after the MILE. Dropped another 6 seconds. GREAT race. VERY VERY VERY happy with that event. I love fly!!!!!!
I said people put "labels" on themselves. This can go for anything, not just swimming. People at school label themselves as "preppy" "weird" "girly" "tomboy" or whatever they want to call themselves. Well labels are not a good thing. You can label people by how they look or what people make up about them. It can be funny but then its just ridiculous.
But for swimming its different. It shows. You can say your an "IMer", or a "flyer." But really, your just a swimmer. You may be better at one thing than another, but that isn't the only thing you swim good at. I mean, I am good at fly, not backstroke, and I'm good at distance, not sprints. But if you think you can swim it, you can. It shows. If you get mad because you don't want to swim something again it shows in how you swim the event. You won't perform. If you focus, you will. I took off 8 seconds on my fly. I focused. I didn't say "oh well I'm not good at fly I'm only good at breaststroke so i don't care about this." I said "this is fly. kick some butt. show them that your 12 and you can kick their butt." Don't label yourself. It will show. Ask a swimmer or just anyone.
Xoxo, Hannah
